Dr. Ellison holds a Ph.D. in Pathology from New York Medical College and a B.A. in Biology from Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York. She is the chair of Natural Science and Co-Director of the Honors Program at Mercy College, New York. She was previously an Associate Professor at St. Francis College, NY where she taught a variety of courses to both Biology majors and non-Science majors including Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Forensice Biology. Her courses emphasized the importance of the student's ability to communicate science through writing and speech.

Dr. Ellison also taught Pathology, Epidemiology and Physiology in the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences at New York Medical College. She is the Vice President of the Metro NY Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) and an active member of the Metropolitan Association of College and University Biologists (MACUB).
